Biographical Note

Nicholas T. Yannarell (EE 1956) was born and raised in Hazelton, PA. He served in the United States Air Force from 1948-1952. He entered CUA as a freshman in the fall of 1952 and graduated in 1956 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Yannarell also was a member of the CUA chapter of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, a pre-professional club. In his senior year he would become the first president of the Inter-Engineering Council. Among other extracurricular activities, "Nick" was appointed to the Senior Week Committee where he served as chairman of the Senior October Picnic at Brighton Dam, MD. A number of photographs in the collection document this popular gathering spot. While attending CUA, Yannarell also met his wife, Christina "Tina" (Frawley) Yanarell (BSN 1958).

Mr. Yannarell and his wife are involved with CUA Alumni activities and he now serves on the Recruitment Committee for the CUA Senators Club, a social and philanthropic organization for CUA engineering and architecture graduates.

Scope and Contents

The material in this collection was personally donated to The Catholic University of America by Nicholas T. Yannarell. The photographic series in this collection documents the mid-1950's from around (and off) campus to provide a lively glimpse of that era. His friends and classmates are identified among the many indoor/outdoor group photos taken at picnics and socials. This material is accompanied by CUA publications and personal memorabilia, mostly print-based. These printed materials document school dances, worship services and theatre performances from this period.

Series 1 contains memorabilia, including ticket stubs and prayer medallions. Series 2 is comprised of CUA publications including an alumni directory, event programs and some hardbound volumes, and non-CUA publications such as 4 military issue gospels, missal and prayer book. Series 3 consists of approximately 100 color slides along with 3 B/W 3"x5" prints and 1 B/W 8"x10".
